Fire damage restoration is difficult, not only do you have smoke & soot damage left over, but also firefighting can contribute to water damage as well. RESTORx DKI takes care to insure that contents are restored properly to prevent mold damage or growth. If not charred, many items can be restored by our qualified fire restoration team . Even a light coating of soot could permanently embed in items if professional restoration techniques are not used. Call us immediately!
RESTORx DKI technicians are extensively trained to handle all types of fire damage disasters. Items that can generally be restored are: carpeting, furniture, clothing, china, silver, antiques, heirlooms, appliances, electronics, and photographs.
It's important to treat electrical equipment quickly and within 24 hours. Equipment which has suffered thermal damage that has cosmetic aberrations in the plastic components cannot be restored. Fire damage generates combustion byproducts, which are locked into the soot which then condenses on all cool surfaces. Smoke exposure during the fire for a short time does little damage, but the particulate left behind may contain corrosive components. In the presence of humidity and oxygen, these components will corrode metal surfaces and this damage can be permanent in just a few days

Of course it is much better to prevent a fire from ever happening. Some things to remember to keep your property more fire resistant:
- Clean up the clutter.
- Install smoke detectors and check and replace the batteries once a year.
- Check for faulty wiring and that your home or building conforms to code. Also, be sure to use the right wattage of light bulbs for your home. Using wattage too high for the socket can and will cause fires.
- Be careful with fireworks! According to the NFPA (www.nfpa.org), on Independence Day in a typical year, far more U.S. fires are reported than on any other day, and fireworks account for more than half of those fires, more than any other cause of fires. In 2009, fireworks caused an estimated 18,000 reported fires, including 1,300 structure fires, 400 vehicle fires, and 16,300 outside and other fires. These fires resulted in no reported deaths, and an estimated 30 civilian injuries and $38 million in direct property damage. In 2009, U.S. hospital emergency rooms treated an estimated 8,800 people for fireworks related injuries. Sparklers and novelties alone accounted for 32% of the emergency room fireworks injuries in 2009.
Q. We had a minor fire. Several walls are covered with smoke. Can't I just wipe them down?
A. Depending on what burned, you may be doing the walls more harm than good by cleaning them. Fires leaves residues of acids, synthetics, PVC pipe, and wood treatments, along with smoke residue that can pit the metals in your house. It's cheaper to call RESTORx DKI to fix the fire damage caused, than to just repaint and cover up the real problem underneath. You need an expert to inspect the scene and let you know what your options are.
Q. We had a major fire. There is water and ash everywhere. Is our furniture ruined?
A. Not nessarily. In many cases, RESTORx can restore your furniture as long as the smoke and ash were not driven by heat.
