Day at the Downs Event to benefit Ronald McDonald House
On Friday, Sep. 17th The Sterling Group DKI and RESTORx DKI held our 1st Annual “Day at the Downs” Client Appreciation event at Emerald Downs. We were able to raise $3,000 in the silent auction for the
Ronald McDonald House Charities!
The Ronald McDonald House provides a caring home away from home for families of seriously ill children. Only 1 in 5 families are able to pay the $25 nightly fee. However, no family is ever turned away because they cannot pay. The actual cost of a night’s stay is $80. The Seattle Ronald McDonald House provided 28, 202 nights of housing in 2009. Families come primarily from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. All funds raised from our auction went to the Ronald McDonald House. These funds will help to cover the lodging costs for families who have traveled at least 45 miles after finding out that their child is seriously ill. Families usually stay at the house for many months, and RMHC are able to provide them with:
• A comfortable room with a private bath
• An instant support system of other families staying at the House, dedicated staff members and community volunteers.
• A communal kitchen, dining facilities, pantry and laundry room.
• Close proximity to Seattle Children’s.
• House activities including meals, movies, arts & crafts and local outings.
